ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
PROGRAM

The five years of elementary education lay an essential foundation for students’ continuous journey of learning and personal development at Pathway School. Modern learning approaches based on Constructivist Learning Theory are integrated into every lesson, supporting students’ holistic development in both qualities and competencies. 25% of the curriculum is dedicated to English, while another 25% is allocated to seven skill-based subjects designed to promote students’ physical development. In particular, Pathway School incorporates the value of Mindfulness into the Elementary School Program through Emotional Education, helping nurture each student’s inner world and emotional well-being.

Pathway School integrates the educational philosophy of the Three Roots – Morality, Wisdom, and Willpower throughout its curriculum, nurturing students to become happy citizens who live with kindness, demonstrate appropriate behavior, and take responsibility for their families and society.

Building on the curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training, Pathway School’s elementary program applies Constructivist Theory while integrating the values of the Three Roots into Culture, Skills, and English lessons, turning each class into an engaging learning experience. Students are supported in mastering essential knowledge effectively, developing practical thinking, expressing their ideas freely, and enhancing creativity and multiple intelligences.

MATHEMATICS – EXPERIENTIAL AND HANDS-ON LEARNING

Students learn through hands-on activities using engaging visual learning materials designed by the Academic Council and teachers to suit the learning needs and practical activities of each grade level. The curriculum is structured to ensure continuity across grades, building on Montessori learning materials for children aged 6–7. Through hands-on exploration with concrete learning materials, students develop logical thinking, mathematical competencies, problem-solving skills, and creativity.

LITERATURE – CONSTRUCTIVIST VIETNAMESE

Lessons are designed to develop students’ empathy, imagination, and ability to make connections, helping them engage more naturally with text structures and various forms of art. In Vietnamese, students are introduced to phonics through a modern approach to breaking down sounds and syllables. Through role-play, creative writing, and cultural appreciation activities, students develop language competency, aesthetic awareness, and compassion.

NATURAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES | SCIENCE – HISTORY – GEOGRAPHY

Pathway School applies thematic, project-based, and interdisciplinary learning to Science, History, and Geography. In particular, 50% of the learning activities in Natural and Social Sciences/Science are delivered through a STEM approach, helping students develop self-learning, independence, problem-solving, creativity, communication, collaboration, and scientific competency. Through these experiences, students strengthen their ability to learn independently and take greater ownership of both their studies and daily lives.

CONSTRUCTIVIST INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

At the elementary level, Pathway School students are introduced to digital technologies and begin developing essential IT competencies. From Grade 3, students start learning through an international IT curriculum. The school also incorporates educational software, online learning resources, coding, and Scratch to help students expand their imagination and creativity through a learning experience that combines study and play.

CONSTRUCTIVIST INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

With the goal of instilling the habit of self-discipline from an early age, Pathway School places a strong emphasis on building a structured skills program that is age-appropriate, starting from preschool. Especially at the elementary level, Pathway School focuses on developing 7 skill-based subjects: Martial Arts, Swimming & Diving, Survival, Army Training, Arts, Music, and Social-Emotional Learning.

This program not only enhances students’ physical health but also strengthens their inner resilience, cultivating the willpower needed for each student to develop courage, calmness, the ability to overcome personal challenges in any situation, and the capacity for empathy and connecting with others and the community.

MARTIAL ARTS

Students are equipped with self-defense skills, strategies to avoid school violence, and opportunities to develop holistically in mind, character, and physical well-being through martial arts training and the spirit of martial arts discipline.

SWIMMING & DIVING

Students are equipped with essential life-saving skills to protect themselves, help others, and courageously overcome challenges in aquatic environments. These include water rescue skills and interdisciplinary swimming, diving, and survival challenges that prepare students to respond effectively in emergency situations in the water.

ARMY TRAINING

The program develops agility and disciplined willpower through a series of interconnected physical training stations and obstacle courses that simulate military training exercises. Each stage is designed to challenge students to push beyond their limits, build resilience, and strengthen their determination.

SURVIVAL

Through specialized training programs and weekly practical lessons, students develop essential survival skills and learn how to apply them in real-life situations. They gradually build instinctive responses that help them remain calm and composed when facing unexpected or urgent situations.

MUSIC

The Pathway Music Program nurtures students’ inner world in a harmonious and balanced way. Students learn to express their positive inner experiences through musical instruments and movement, while developing their sensitivity to sound and rhythm and immersing themselves in both traditional and contemporary music.

ARTS – PEACEFUL STROKES

Students are encouraged to explore, observe, imagine, and reflect on beauty, then recreate it through their own imagination. Through this process, art helps nurture the inner self and bring greater balance to life.

SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING

Pathway School is the first school in Vietnam to implement the Sanford Harmony program from the United States, now known as Harmony SEL – Social Emotional Learning. Harmony SEL is one of the CASEL programs implemented in more than 45,000 schools worldwide.

The school has adapted and standardized the program into the Social-Emotional Learning subject, Pathway Harmony, to better suit the psychological and emotional development of Vietnamese students. Through topics such as Diversity and Inclusion, Critical Thinking, Communication, Problem-Solving, and Friendship, students gradually learn to recognize and balance their emotions while building harmonious and empathetic relationships with friends, family, and those around them.

Social-emotional learning at Pathway School extends beyond classroom lessons. Students are also nurtured through mindfulness practices integrated into everyday school activities, such as the Mindfulness Bell, Peaceful Meals, Sharing Circles, and Meditation. Through these practices, students gradually cultivate inner peace, stability, and resilience.

During the five foundational years of elementary education, Pathway School’s English program focuses on inspiring a love of learning, nurturing a passion for language, and developing well-rounded English language skills.

With the goal of achieving an A2 level, equivalent to Cambridge English: Flyers, by the end of elementary school, students from Grades 1 to 5 receive 10 English lessons per week, with 40% of the learning time taught by foreign teachers. In addition, e-learning platforms are integrated into the program to support a comprehensive and modern approach to helping children develop English naturally.

Pathway School also hosts Cambridge English certification examinations for elementary students on campus each year.

In addition, teachers incorporate Cause-and-Effect thinking into the English program to help students develop decision-making skills by building the habit of considering possible outcomes before taking action. Through learning activities, students also strengthen essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking.

Pathway School also hosts Cambridge English certification examinations for elementary students on campus each year.
